Life is a Game Magazine is ten people with day jobs who could not stop talking about games, so we built somewhere to put it.
What this is
An issue-based magazine rather than a news feed. We publish when a piece is ready, close an issue when it’s full, and start the next one. Nobody here is working to a traffic target, because there isn’t one and there’s no money attached to it.
Every one of us has a job that pays the bills, and this isn’t it. Everything you read here got written after somebody’s shift ended.
What we don’t do
We don’t run news. We’re slower than everyone else and we’ll always be last to a story, so we stopped pretending otherwise. What we can do instead is spend forty hours with a game and come back honest about it — including the part where we changed our minds halfway through, which is most of what the good pieces turn out to be about.
We also don’t write for the algorithm. That costs us readers and we’ve made our peace with it.
Verdicts, not scores
We don’t give numbers. Every review ends with one of three things: recommend, wait for a sale, or don’t recommend. Each verdict belongs to the person who wrote it, not to the magazine — which is why two of us can disagree about the same game on the same page, and frequently do.
Disclosure
Sometimes a publisher sends us a code. When that happens we say so on the piece itself, in the verdict box, every time. It doesn’t change what we write, but you shouldn’t have to take our word for that without knowing.
If we ever take sponsorship, it will be labelled clearly and it will never buy coverage.
Who we are
Ten writers, listed on our writers page with what each of us can and can’t be trusted on. That last part is the useful bit.
Writing for us
There’s no application and no clips required. Tell us which game you’d write about first and why. That’s the whole process. Get in touch.
