Alongside the premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on October 20th, CD PROJEKT RED surprised fans of the universe by announcing Update 2.5 for Cyberpunk 2077. Released on October 22nd, the update introduces new side quests, an integrated mod manager, gameplay tweaks, and expanded character customization options. So, is it worth diving back into the game with the release of this “final patch”? Let’s dive into what’s new!

Not just another gig

The new side quests are more than routine fixer gigs from the base game – they offer less complex yet engaging storylines complete with fresh dialogue, new secondary characters, and choices. Two distinct quests have been added: one is handed down directly by a fixer, while the other triggers only after you await a phone call from a specific contact.

The first new quest introduced in this update, titled “Clampdown”, centers around a character from the second entry of Edgerunners – Weak Kingsley and his crew. Serving as a prequel to Edgerunners 2 itself, I won’t dive too deeply into the details to avoid spoiling the fun, but the mission takes us to an entirely new, previously inaccessible location: Night City Prison, where Weak Kingsley sends us on a dangerous assignment.

The second quest added with the update is titled “Welcome to Paradise!”. In this mission, Richard Night – the legendary founder of Night City – takes us on a tour through various districts of the metropolis, highlighting famous landmarks known to every player. Along the way, we uncover deeper lore regarding the city’s origins, its fascinating history, and the backstories behind some of its most iconic structures. It serves as an ideal quest both for seasoned lore enthusiasts and for newcomers eager to immerse themselves further into the world’s rich history.

Double the Guns double the Options

Without a doubt, the single most impactful gameplay addition in Update 2.5 is dual wielding – a brand-new combat style allowing players to brandish two pistols simultaneously. A fresh sub-tree titled “Double Trouble” has been added to the Cool skill tree to support this approach, packing several neat perks designed to refine and enhance the experience.

This dual-wielding mechanic is strictly limited to handguns and revolvers. To maintain balance, base damage for each weapon is reduced by 37.5%, though all other unique weapon attributes remain fully intact, and you can still equip attachments like sights and scopes. After spending several hours experimenting with this setup, I can confidently say it has jumped straight into my top favorite builds in the game, sitting right alongside pure knife throwers.

The animations – from pulling out both sidearms and firing them in tandem to triggering the new skill that discharges both barrels at once – feel extraordinarily fluid and satisfying. I highly encourage everyone to take this build for a spin on their own V; I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

More style for V

Among the new additions introduced with the update are specialized storefronts known as Glamdocs, which offer even greater avenues for expanding your character’s personal lore through cyberware customization. Each Glamdoc hub features a unique selection of patterns and custom paint jobs for your arm implants, giving you full creative freedom to tailor your augmentations to perfectly complement your V’s aesthetic.

The final additions to character customization arrive in the form of iconic NPC hairstyles – such as those belonging to Panam, Rogue, and more – which are now fully accessible to players. Furthermore, new clothing options have been distributed across existing retailers, enriching the shelves of Maxiwear, Jinguji, NetWatch, and IconAmerica.

Modding for everyone!

The dedicated Mod Menu – introduced by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – has now arrived in Cyberpunk 2077, accessible to PC and current-gen console players alike. Much like in The Witcher 3, the current selection of available mods remains relatively modest for now, but this repository is bound to expand significantly in the near future. While the user interface mirrors the familiar layout from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it boasts a distinct, futuristic aesthetic tailored to match the unique vibe of the game.

And those cover all the major additions introduced in Update 2.5 – I’m already kicking off a fresh playthrough, and I strongly encourage you to do the same!

Shoot for the big leagues, chooms!
