Major First-Party Headlines & Surprise Reveals

  • Marvel’s Wolverine (Insomniac Games): Sony led the broadcast by finally pulling back the curtain on active gameplay. The showcase highlighted a brutal, ultra-violent combat engine featuring Logan’s aggressive counter mechanics. Insomniac confirmed the title is on track for its locked September 15, 2026 release date, serving as PlayStation's definitive heavy hitter for Q3. This was an excellent way to start of the show and Insomniac has left no doubts that Wolverine will be another incredibly fun addition to their Marvel catalogue.

  • Until Dawn 2 (Firesprite Entertainment): In one of the biggest surprises of the night, Sony officially announced a direct sequel to the 2015 cult classic. Taking over from Supermassive Games, first-party studio Firesprite is developing the title as an anthology shift. The plot follows a group of modern, viral-focused internet ghost hunters traveling to a haunted tropical island. The game is slated for a 2027 window and features Neil Newbon in a leading role. Overall the change in character art style was a little jarring but the "Until Dawn" name carries a lot of weight so it will be interesting to see what this sequel can deliver.

  • God of War: Faye Prequel (Sony Santa Monica): Confirming heavy pre-show rumors, Santa Monica Studio dedicated a substantial 20-minute chunk of the broadcast to a cinematic, uncut gameplay look at a prequel centered entirely on Faye. The combat introduces a faster, more agile edge using a sleek blade alongside traditional quick-time events. Deborah Ann Woll is confirmed to be reprising her role. A couple things that stuck out here were the incredible visuals truly delivering on the promise of the PS5 generation and the combat resembling a much more aerial and fast paced era of the franchise. It seems Sony Santa Monica would like to move away from the more grounded combat of the Norse Era and return to the systems they made famous during the Greek trilogy.

Core Third-Party Partnerships & Release Dates

  • Control: Resonant (Remedy Entertainment): Remedy dropped a stunning new narrative trailer confirming a September 24, 2026 launch date, making September an incredibly crowded corridor for premium software releases. Once again Remedy proves they are at the top of the narrative game and Control: Resonant looks like it will be continuing the story of the Faden's spectacularly.

  • Onimusha: Way of the Sword (Capcom): Capcom extended its revival streak with a deep-dive gameplay trailer. The title has locked in a September 25, 2026 release date, and a playable demo has gone live on the PlayStation Store immediately following the stream. After playing the demo, I can confirm Capcom has done it again with Onimusha promising to be another banger in an incredible year for the Japanese publisher at the top of their game.

  • Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (Flying Wild Hog): Lara Croft’s next major outing received a gorgeous gameplay reveal showcasing high-octane encounter designs and ancient environments. It is officially slated for February 12, 2027. It appears the delay is now confirmed, which although disappointing, leaves a lot of room for polish and time for players to get excited to return to where it all began with Lara.

  • Dune: Awakening (Funcom): The highly anticipated open-world survival title is officially making its way to PS5 on September 22, 2026, featuring a dedicated single-player narrative mode tailored for console players. If you've been wanting to hop into the world of Arrakis but multiplayer isn't your thing, now might be the perfect time to see what Fumcom have been cooking.

  • Rayman Legends Retold (Ubisoft): Confirming recent tracking, a polished, vibrant platforming remaster is headed to consoles on October 1, 2026. This is 100% one to keep an eye on if you are a side scrolling platformer fan. Rayman is a legendary franchise for a reason and hopefully this new coat of paint will bring it back into the limelight.

2027 Pipeline & Ecosystem Updates

  • Kemuri (Unseen): Ikumi Nakamura’s studio showcased a high-energy, stylish look at its post-apocalyptic yokai-hunting action title, officially locking down a 2027 launch window. This one did catch my attention but it's also one I will need to see a lot more of before launch. Looks like it could be a very cool Co Op game so definitely check it out if it interests you.

  • The Lost Wild (Great Ape Games): The highly cinematic, atmospheric dinosaur survival horror title resurfaced with an eerie cinematic trailer, tracking for a 2027 arrival. I really thought we were going to see the Jurassic Park logo but this game seems to be a part of that franchise in everything but name. This is one I will definitely be keeping a close eye on.

  • PlayStation Plus Classics & Live-Service Additions: Sony announced that Gitraroo Man, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams are all joining the Classics catalog. Additionally, Bungie showcased Marathon’s second season, Nightfall, which officially launches today. Here's your chance to get into the Onimusha franchise and try out Marathon for free if either interest you!

There's definitely some others we missed here like Silent Hill Townfall, Ill, Ace Combat 8, and plenty more bangers, so make sure to check out the PlayStation blog for all the info! Thanks for reading.
